Static Launch (Legacy)

The legacy Facets launch flow, covering cloud and network setup, Kubernetes configuration, resource selection, and how to destroy or delete an environment.

Launching an environment creates its cluster and provisions the required resources. This is the legacy launch flow; new projects use Dynamic Launch.

Cloud infrastructure setup

The launch begins by connecting your cloud provider and configuring the network:

  • Multiple cloud providers with account-level isolation
  • Custom VPC configurations
  • Region and availability-zone selection
  • Flexible CIDR ranges

Kubernetes configuration

Tune the cluster to your workloads:

  • Spot instances for cost savings on dev and test
  • On-Demand instances for high-availability production
  • Custom node configurations
  • Auto-scaling with configurable node limits

Resource management

During launch you control the environment's resources:

  • Enable or disable specific resources
  • Configure resource-specific parameters
  • Set environment variables and secrets
  • Review resource dependencies before deployment

Launch an environment

  1. From the Projects menu, select your project and open the Environment tab.
  2. Click Launch on your chosen environment to start the Launch Wizard.
  3. Work through the wizard: connect the cloud provider and account, set up networking (VPC), configure the Kubernetes cluster, review and set secrets and variables, and enable the resources you need.

The wizard steps are customisable, see Modular Launch Wizard.

Destroy and delete

Destroying tears down all provisioned infrastructure while keeping the environment's configuration in the Control Plane, so you can relaunch it later. An environment can only be deleted (its record removed) after it has been destroyed. For the full behaviour and the states destroy is allowed from, see Destroying an environment.

Using prompt

Destroy the dev environment in myproject.

or

Using command

# Tear the infrastructure down. --yes is required, there is no prompt to accept
raptor destroy environment dev -p myproject --yes -w

# Then remove the environment record itself
raptor delete environment dev -p myproject --yes

New to the CLI? Install it first.

Destroy from the Environment Overview header, then delete the environment once it is destroyed.
